AS-21 is not the real Legato. Advertising departments sometimes called it "Legato compact" or "mini legato"............................ and those are a pretty sweet deal even at the asking price.

Legato is model HH-1-C(imported white birch) or HH-1-CM(african mahogany), and it is significantly different from, and preceded the AS-21.

I don't understand it not being a real Legato, It says "Legato" right on the back of the cabinet. It may be a later Legato, but it's not like the current Altec reusing model numbers on their new plastic products.

If I lived closer to Detroit, I'd be knocking on the seller's door right now. The components alone are worth $800 any day.

I'm surprised they are not long gone already. Shocked to see that they were still unsold today.

I don't understand it not being a real Legato

It's really not complicated. They re-cycled the name a decade later.

A real Legato uses a pair of 15 inch 803/416 woofers, an 802 on a 511, and a parallel network using oil caps and high quality potted chokes.

AS-21 came along a decade later with it's load of 414 pair and 806 on 811 with a more run of the mill network using the by now very common laminated chokes common in 60's Altec systems, and cheap electrolytics. If you still think that's a real Legato, then i cannot help you.



The speaker system above is in no way equal to or the same as the speaker system below.
